JAZZ ORIENT /RE-ORIENT

The core of the band are the incredibly versatile trio of Baluji, Chris Conway and Linda Shanovitch. Music as always from Jazz Orient is for the heart, mind and soul.

Jazz Orient celebrate Jazz, Eastern European, Middle Eastern and Indian music creating a kaleidoscope of rhythms and melodies with intricate patterns of percussive footwork and graceful movements from Indian dance.

Baluji Shrivastav, Linda Shanovitch and Chris Conway have been making music together as Re-Orient, and Jazz Orient for 10 years. Over that time they have played at prestigious venues and events including the South Bank in London, festivals in Buxton, Edinburgh and all over the UK.

Re-Orient has been joined by many excellent musicians as guests such as Fiaz Khan, Sakari Kukku, Talvin Singh. Many like Gerry Hunt on guitar, sax. flute and keyboards, and Kevin Dunford on Bass and Mick Parker (tabla and kit drum) have become an extended family. We would like to thank all the great players who have joined us on this Re-Orient/Jazz Orient journey adding and sharing their music with ours.

They have made four albums including guest performances of legendary trumpeter Guy Barker, Sax maestro Andy Sheppard and “Sultan of Swing” Egyptian percussionist Hossam Ramzy.

This summer 2008 Jazz Orient have played at Slough Dance in the Park, Lambeth Festival, DadaFest in Liverpool and have just completed a tour with Applause Rural Touring autumn 2008.
